The BIODESIGN LAB conducts research in the following areas:
- Pressurised breathing. Applied in either spontaneously breathing or anaesthesia patients
- Nasal olfaction. Using CFD modelling of spatial and temporal variance of delivering volatile species delivered via orthonasal and retronasal paths under differing conditions.
- The relationship between breathing and ultradian cycles within the body. Investigating the influence breathing has on physiological/neurological systems.
- Nasal delivery systems. Investigations into a better delivery of solution for the difficult to reach sinuses to enhance post-surgical recovery or treat Chronic Rhinosinusitis.
- Orthopaedic surgical tool redesign. Surgical tools commonly experience high wear rate and cross-contamination issues.
- Stirling cycle ultra-low-temperature cooler. Hardware development for improved efficiency and implementation into new medical and laboratory applications such as lab freezers.
- Tissue/Organ transportation. Design of new, low-cost systems that maintain the correct temperature of tissue and organ samples during transportation.
