Postgraduate Study Opportunities


There is an opportunity to conduct postgraduate studies within the BIODESIGN LAB on selected topics.  Financial support may be available but will depending upon funding availability at time of application.

Surgical tools
It is proposed that an investigation is undertaken with the objective to better understanding the cutting behaviour between the osteotome and human bone to enable improvements to be made in the durability of the cutting edge.

This project would ideally suit someone with either a mechanical or biomedical engineering background.

First Response VentilatorBioDesign Lab Breathing Apparatus
Investigate the feasibility of developing a compact and portable self-powered ventilator that could be carried and used by emergency and first-aid workers as a first response to accident victims who have ceased spontaneous breathing.

This project would ideally suit someone with either a mechanical or biomedical engineering background.

Breathing and ultradian cycles

Investigate how breathing can influence physiological/neurological body cycles in normal and pathological states and be used as a non-pharmaceutical means of treatment.

Teaching

ENME806 Biomedical Thermofluids Modelling
Students enrolled in this paper develop an understanding of how to apply mechanical engineering to solve biomedical engineering problems. The process is presented as a problem solving, decision making, analysis and optimising activity. Analyse and model thermo-fluid systems from human physiology using appropriate engineering tools and approaches. Applications to disease diagnosis and medical device design are considered.

Students planning to enrol or already enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering (hons) or Master of Engineering programmes are encouraged to enquire. Details of the timetable and the course handbook will be available on Blackboard.
